George Washington Carver said "When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." If the principles and ideas expressed in the Declaration were already known by many, it was in the uncommon expression of those principles, in the times and circumstances in which they were expressed that has commanded the attention of the world.<br />Even during these times, I am bolstered by the feeling that these principles and ideas are still very much "an expression of the American mind".
